Whirlwind Tour
Hello out there!
When I decided to pursue this postgraduate degree in the UK, I also made a promise to myself that I would travel more. I enjoy travelling and always have. There is so much out there to see and do and experience and I want to achieve it all. Though I've always had the travel bug, travelling means money and time. I know, I know you can travel cheaply especially if you eat little, sleep in shacks and walk as much as possible. Trust me, I've done that, but the thing I was seemed to be lacking was time. That does not come cheaply, nor can be easily manipulated to suit one's needs. So the biggest thing (aside from you know, earning my degree) has been using my time wisely to travel.
The first couple of months here weren't as productive as I'd like. In a little under 2.5 months I visited 1 country and 4 cities. Not my best showing really. In 2018 I've amped up, basically telling myself the earlier I book things, the cheaper it will be. Yes, I am spending a lot of money up front now (like a lot of money) but when the time comes to go to these places it will be worth it.
Coupled with this renewed zest for travel was a visit from J. Having never travelled abroad before I was more than thrilled to be a part of the experience and taking him to places I have seen as well as ones I've never been. It was a happy mesh of old and new. I did feel a little bad because our trip was almost nonstop (catch this bus, make that train, connecting flights etc) but before he went home I made sure we had a least one evening of just hanging out and sleeping in a comfy bed.
Over the course of 10 days, we visited London, Leicester, Paris, Oxford and Basingstoke. We ate cheese, drank wine, sipped beers, walked miles, made friends, laughed, ran through an airport, tried new foods, got soaking wet, froze to death, and took more pictures than we probably should have.
I honestly think that travelling together on such a big trip really brought us closer. I'll add a few pics at the end of this post as well.
As for the rest of this year, the travel calendar thus far includes Belfast, York, Edinburgh, Manchester, Dublin, Paris, Alnwick, London, Liverpool, Winchester, Brussels, Copenhagen, Birmingham...maybe more.
In between I'll be researching my dissertation, writing it, looking for a job and taking each day one step at a time.....until next post...laters
