EuroTrip 2018

There's been ups and downs and I've almost reached the finish line. Just wanted to pop in and say EuroTrip 2018 has been a great way to finish up my time in the UK.

The plan was to stay in the UK until mid-September but as they say...best laid plans. Due to a turn of events, I'll be heading back home sooner than originally thought so I booked a EuroTrip with some of my friends as a send off to my time here. The trip included 5 countries (The Netherlands, Germany, The Czech Republic, Hungary & Austria) and 6 cities. Of those, 5 were totally brand new to me. As per usual I do 2-3 things in every country I  have visited since I first studied abroad in Italy back in 2007... 1) Drink beer/wine/liquor 2) Eat McDonalds 3) Purchase a button. When I travelled to Italy for the first time, I learned the drinking age was 18 and also to love wine. To this day I still appreciated the fact that I bought amazing red wine in a juice box while there. I still talk about it as well. It was also on this trip that I first realized that McDonald's was different. As a child when we visited Jamaica, we never ate fast food. If we did it would be Jamaican fast food, so we'd get beef patties or jerk chicken. As such one day while in Rome all the American kids I was with were feeling a bit homesick and spotted a McDonald's sign. After a quick lunch break, my lifelong desire to eat McDonald's all over the world came to fruition. I rue the day when I won't be able to find one. For those of you interested the current top 3 McDonald's are France, Germany and Austria. France has delicious pastries, Germany has beer and Austria is a sauce king. I had literally 5 different sauces with my nuggets and just about died from happiness. As for my final must do, I have been collecting buttons (badges, pins, etc) since I was a preteen. Just about every concert, event, country, what have you I have been to I have a button to remember it by. Generally, if I have friends who want to get me a present, that's my go to. It's small, generally pretty cheap and I have enough shot glasses and magnets to serve me a lifetime. God forbid I get another keychain.

Highlights of EuroTrip 2018 included seeing the Anne Frank House and enjoying the Banksy exhibit at the Moco in Amsterdam, the architecture and charm of Dresden, party boat and a thermal bath in Budapest, chimney cake, delicious cheap beer and getting lost in Prague, hearing the sound of music in Salzburg and appreciating the rich history, amazing food and fantastic beer in Munich.

When people ask me about this trip I say t was 98% life changing and 2% shit, and when I look at those numbers...I'm ok with that. I'll add pics in another post and with that sign off.

Until next post....laters
