More FWC26 Memories

Image
Just wanted to share more photos of how amazing this experience has been.

More World Cup Adventures

Image
I've had such a time with FWC26. From visiting orher cities, to attending a match, to FanFest I've been doing everything I can to soak up all the good energy and vibes. In the spirit (and because I have watched just about every match so far), here's my teams I'm following list. No particular order: Japan England (Is it going home?) USA Brasil Cabo Verde (dark horse 🐎) Argentina (back to back?) Morocco (so far the lesser problematic African team) Also here's a few photos of my adventures thus far Until next post, laters

FIFA WC26

Image
It's almost time for the 26 World Cup.  1 Continent. 3 Countries. 16 Cities.  48 Teams. 1 Winner. Atlanta is not ready but I sure am. I'll have the opportunity to volunteer and I am stoked. I picked up my uniform today and it really solidified that this is happening.  And I get to be in the room where it happens. I look forward to a summer of soccer, fun and adventure.  Until next post.....laters

Atlanta Celeb Sighting

Atlanta is not a real place..this is a common saying for those (especially the Black ones) who have lived here for any length of time. The reasoning behind this is because the type of stuff that happens often stretches the realm of possibility.  Things like a panhandler dressed as Batman at the intersection of very busy road. I recently experienced one such incident and it also yielded a celebrity sighting.  I stopped posting about celeb sightings a while ago because honestly a lot of them live in and around Atlanta 😅. Elton John had a home here. T-Pain lives in Smyrna. Of course, Usher, TLC, Ludacris etc. Along those same veins, I was driving by my local car wash and who do I see? Ceelo Green (Goodie Mob). Mind you it's less that I SAW Ceelo and moreso WHERE I saw him. I take my car to SOAP. So, you mean to tell me that celebs are just like us? Yeah, Atlanta is not a real place. In any case, it's my favorite fictional place and I wouldn't change a thing (except the public...

Beyoncé & Baecation

Image
This has been a month of refilling my cup. The state of the US has left much to be desired and I have been especially intentional about spending time with loved ones, going out to do the things I love and expressing joy whenever I can. I recently saw Beyoncé on her COWBOY CARTER TOUR and even though I saw it 4x each was a different and transcendent experience.  I sang. I cried.  I sat in my feelings.  Every moment meant something. The opening sequence of the first 5 songs alone was enough to make me so appreciative. I also took the time to see family and J and I went to Vegas together to celebrate 13 years. Felt appropriate 😅. All in all the world is still really heavy, but I am navigating it lighter. Until next post....laters

FIFA Club World Cup

Image
It's been a busy soccer summer. This year the US is hosting the FIFA Club World Cup with 5 games taking place in the A. I applied for and got accepted to volunteer, which has been pretty cool. In addition to the sponsored Addias gear, we got volunteer swag for the number of shifts we participated in, free parking,  discounts to matches, and the chance to meet folx from all over the city, state, country and world. I've been thinking of it as a trial run for the World Cup next year. We haven't hosted since I believe '93, so it should be a whole new ball game. In any case, I had a lovely time, got to watch a few games and as an accreditation volunteer got to make sure folx were ready for the action. I've really grown to love football (soccer, fútbol) and have really enjoyed bringing that love to more people in this way. Until next post, latera

Cool Auntie...maybe?

Image
So for spring break my nephew decided to come visit me. Mind you we're close but there's always room for growth and improvement. Spending a week together is definitely one way to get those results. In true impulsive nature though my nibling called me a week & a half before said intended visit to let me know.  Well crap, as much as I love having him...it is also one of my peak seasons at work. So we've had to work around, well, work. I shifted my WFH day so as to pick him up from the airport, took him grocery shopping (got to feed the child), and came up with several things to do while also leaving room for him to do whatever. I offered him transportation and a list of places to check during the day but he seems to just enjoy vibing with the dog and practicing his music. That works for me.  I've been resisting the urge to check in with him every couple of hours...are you having fun? do you need to eat? what are you interested in now? am I still cool? It's been a...

Another trip around the sun

Moe-vember was one for the books. First I celebrated with a RenFest celebration at the first ever Fall Fling.  The weather was beautiful,  the mead was flowing and the vibes were immaculate. Birthday/Black Friday treat to myself? Taylor Swift's The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology. Then we went on a Bahamian cruise (Celebrity Silhouette). Then we spent a few days with J's family and spent more time at the beach. And then we went to my favorite park and just hung out and caught up with friends. This year has been full of new adventures, old favorites, lessons learned and lots of laughs. Thank you to everyone who celebrated Moe-vember (extended til December 7th 😅) with me and followed along. I'm a lucky girlie to be surrounded by so many folks who love and care about lil ol' me. Until next post...laters

Scary Times

Welp it was such a busy month that I missed a post! To be fair to myself, I did think about posting and how I was running out of to days to get one in for October...but I just didn't post 😅.  Part of the reason I was so busy was prepping to the upcoming general election. I have really gotten passionate about getting and supporting the election process (especially in Georgia). This has taken several forms but most recently & consistently it's been through working the polls. I've done just about every job except Manager & Assistant Manager (though I have been asked).  While I truly do enjoy the job this particular election has felt...scary and off putting. It's become the norm to be mean and rude to those who may not share your views. Also, while I am favoring one candidate over another I'm seeing friends disintegrate relationships and dive deeper into divide this election.  It's scary stuff. Whatever the world we have on November 11th (once all the vote...

The Final Countdown (Dragon*Con Edition)

So it's almost time for Dragon*Con! This will be the first year that I'll be there for the entirety of the "weekend". I use quotation marks around weekend because it's actually 5 days long. It used to be just the weekend and due to popularity and growth it's now officially starting on Thursday.  I honestly think if we could financially manage the expense that goes into hosting such a large event that we'd just do Monday to Monday hahahah😂😂😂. I've got a tentative cosplay line up done and am super stoked about them.  So without further adieu: Thursday: Static Shock Bunny & Gear Hef Friday: Publix Loki Variant (tentatively) Saturday: Bill Potts (Parade/Photoshoot)----still figuring out what to do in the afternoon Sunday: Bill Potts/15th Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa)/Fugitive Doctor---Also the day of the Black Geeks of D*C Photoshoot Monday: Lazy PJ/Onesie/Nerd Wear This is also the first year that we'll be staying at a host hotel (or any hotel for that...

Welp another trip around the sun done! This year was a bit lower key but I did do a beer bus with a few friends. It featured 8 local breweries(& a cidery). It was a hop on hop off situation so friends could come and go as they pleased. I've officially moved into the next age range tier for surveys so finding a way to make peace with that. This past year wasn't my best but it also wasn't the worst so that will do. My Spotify Wrapped came out the day after my birthday so I feel it's worth sharing the soundtrack to my year. Until next post....laters

Goals?? Maybe but let's not call it that

It's been a long (yet short) couple of weeks in 2022. With it has come some big ups and downs. A few major celebrities died (Betty White, Sidney Poitier, Louis Anderson, Andre Talley, Meatloaf) and I've really been thinking about quality of life. In that regards I've taken a few steps towards things I want to accomplish this year. I wouldn't say they are goals per se but I wouldn't actually say they aren't either 🤷🏿‍♀️. Talking in circles I know but here goes: 1) Started locs 2) Training for a 10 miler 3) Run 3 miles a week 4) Cook 2x a week  5) Read 50 📚  6) In bed by midnight  Until next post...laters

2022

The year ahead has so much potential. I'm looking forward to seeing what will happen. Covid is STILL raging (there's another variant, Omicron) but I feel as though we've figured out how we (J&I) will and can navigate it.  We've got a few trips planned. Namely Tampa, Baton Rouge, Portland,  Seattle, DC, Jamaica (for me) and Vancouver. I found out that I will be receiving a raise and possibly an assistant. So just winding down the work year with plotting out what that could look like. I never really do a great job of plotting out my visions and wants for the future but I am hopeful and happy so that's got to count for something 🤷🏿‍♀️ Until next post....laters

We are the champions

Image
The last time the Braves won the World Series, I was a kid. The last time Atlanta won a championship was 2018. Now for the second time in 3 years.....we are the champions!! I missed the Atlanta United parade in 2018, so I made sure to see the Atlanta (Marietta 🤣😤🤣) Braves parade. I don't "love" the team name or the "chop" tbh but they did won after a lot of work so way to go.
