I 🥰 You

You've braved so much and you aren't alone is your sadness, anger & fear. May tomorrow bring clarity and hopefully peace. You'll get through this with the support of the people who love you...like me.  Until next post...laters

Little Things

A year ago today, some folx decided after hearing a dude talk that it was a good idea to barge into a space and disrupt it. Violently. Destructive. Anarchy. What has since been referred to as the Capitol Insurrection has changed the fabric of my world. I've always had the thought that life is short so enjoy the ride. Sometimes rides are thrilling,  boring,  fun and scary. On that day, life was scary. People I love were just going about their daily life when the decisions of other people affected them adversely. I had flashes of September 11 & April 16. Dates that fundamentally changed me.  As I reflect now on a new date on that list, I try to think of the little things that make me smile.  New houseplants. Family. My dog. Starbucks iced chai. Doctor Who. Steven Universe. J.  It's through this I can continue. Through these I'll stay on the ride and try to enjoy it.

Overwhelmed

Sometimes I just feel overwhelmed about the vast amount of uncaring people in the world. It can feel like folx just don't have empathy for each other. We spend so much time condemning one another for things we disagree on.  Sometimes I can let these thing not phase me, other times it keeps me up at night.  As I spiral in sleeplessness, I become less and less hopeful about where we will go as a city, country and civilization.  I've tried to be more reflective about my part in all this but it also feels like I'm spiraling.

Quarantine Dreams

So I have been on WFH/ Social Distancing guidelines since March 14th. I've been able to work at a Farm 3 days a week, help do grocery deliveries and do other things to help create a schedule and keep busy.  I've been thinking though of all the things I want to do when the world feels manageable and safe again. I'm going to list them here for reasons: Get a new tattoo   (got one! It's a rose by Bree at City of Ink. Made an appointment for another in Feb, wore a mask) Get a new bike (got one! Her name is Shuri and I love her) See a live musical/concert (I should have said "in person", virtual concerts have been a staple) Get my hair braided or start dreadlocks ( got faux locs...seriously thinking about locing my hair, wore a mask) Dye my hair (I did a home dye job which turned out fine but I am aching for a real drastic change) Get a new ear piercing...maybe another nose piercing  Get a massage  (After several months got one in Oct to celebrat...

Dumpster Fire

Someone said at work yesterday, "my life is like the dumpster fire homeless folks in movies stand around, useful but still tragic" and I felt that to my core. As of late I have been feeling good about some choices and worst about others. In the end I still feel like I am needed in this world, if only for the comfort of others. What a way to look forward to the next chapter, 2020.  Until next post....laters

I've been thinking....

The other day I read a post from someone who I really respect and it talked about how it's ok to have a hobby (you can check it and other posts out here... https://medium.com/@matt.tanner/in-defense-of-just-a-hobby-536c49e7f404) and it got me thinking about how several years ago I struggled with having a "hobby". I felt like all I did was work and the work I did most people have as a hobby. While reading this post I came across a line that said the greatest compliment someone can give you about your hobby is by suggesting ways you can monetize it. That line struck a cord. While I was talking to my partner about his hobbies (playing music, creating and editing videos, beer hunting)  I felt at a lost because I couldn't really narrow down my own. However with thinking about Matt's comment now I definitely have several hobbies.  Event planning, Disney Parks guide, ATL foodie & explorer to name a few. Several times folks have mentioned how I should write and pu...

No Regrets

You ever thought about doing something,  but didn't because you just knew you would regret it almost immediately. For years, the question of what if floated in my mind. What if, just this one time I didn't expect the worst? What if, it's not as bad as I think it will be? What if? I've been toying with this decision for years, literally. Yesterday, several factors came to a head and I made the decision to roll the dice....and I don't regret it. There are no negative feelings in my mind or my heart. Now, that's not to say that there won't ever be. That's still a possibility in the game called life. However, in this moment I am glad I waited and I'm glad it happened. Now the question is...what's next?? Until next post...laters

Here we go again!

Another holiday season is upon us! Another time were I am torn about how much I spend versus how much I save. Bah humbug. Alas hopefully I will have several epiphanies before December 14th.

Captain's Blog: Version 3.0

So recently I celebrated a landmark birthday. I had a blast and when I look back at where I am versus where I thought I would be, I'm surprised but pleased. The road here hasn't been easy (though I doubt anyone's has been) but the ride has been remarkable . I've grown to love my perfections and imperfections. I am still learning and growing and all the while I am surrounded by the most amazing people who cry for me, laugh at me and love me fully .  I'm not sure what lies around the corner but I am excited to see.   Until next post, laters

Reality vs Expectations

Sometimes I lay in bed thinking about the day and wonder..."did the reality meet the expectation?" It's a double edged sword approach to life. One side is great! You exceeded the expectations you set for yourself. The other side: Well crap, why are you setting expectations and possibly setting yourself up for failure and/or disappointment. Today fell to the crap side. Today I had high hopes but then by the end (aka bedtime) I found myself faced with the reality of the day. If I'm being honest the day sucked.  In several months I won't remember why it sucked nor possibly even care but in this moment, it sucked. New question/approach....if you can't remember why the day didn't meet your expectations does that day matter? Until next (hopefully more cheerful post) post, later

Sometimes

Sometimes you remember how things really are and not what you want them to be. At times that makes a wave of overwhelming sadness happen. At times it only last a few moments,  sometimes longer. Sometimes you just want it to be over. Sometimes.
